Eco bulbs What you need to know.

In June, Energy Minister David Parker announced plans to phase out traditional incandescent bulbs in favour of eco bulbs from late next year because they waste electricity. In addition to being a Climate Change measure, it is estimated that by changing lights Kiwis could save almost $500 million of the $660 million spent each year on lighting electricity.
Much discussion has been raised in reference to the safety of installing eco bulbs but Government regulator Energy Safety has no concerns over the safety of low-energy light bulbs and says that the New Zealand standard for eco bulbs includes fire safety performance requirements that exceed international guidelines.
Lighting Council chief executive Richard Pointing says as with other bulbs, people need to take care not to over-tighten the eco bulbs when they\'re putting them in. If you are unsure of how to manage the transition to eco bulbs in your home or business, please give e4 Electrical a call.
